Ministries

Adults

There are many opportunities for adults at First Baptist Church to learn, minister and reach out to others in both the church and the community. Every adult ministry is designed to make our Christian walk more meaningful and real.

There are opportunities for adults to participate in many different Bible studies every week as well as fellowship activities. The church is regularly involved in mission work throughout Alaska and has many needs for adult volunteers in teaching, discipling, music and many other ministries.

AWANA

Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed (AWANA) is a new outreach for our children and youth during Discipleship Training on Sunday evenings from 5:00 – 7:00pm. All those involved have a great time learning God’s Word and Bible lessons as well as all the other activities including game time. AWANA is age graded starting with 3 year olds all the way to the 9th grade.

We look forward to participating with other AWANA groups in Eagle River and Anchorage during their annual AWANA competitions that encourage healthy Christian character and sportsmanship.

Children

The Children’s ministry of the church is focused on training children in the way they should go in hope that when they are grown they will not depart from the path God has laid before them. Our child ministries are age graded and led by adults who God has placed into service. These classes are available throughout the week for bible lessons, choir, mission lessons, AWANA, and many additional activities that occur at different times of the year.

Children in Action/Mission Friends:

These are our children’s ministry under the leadership of the WMU that teaches our children about missionary work around the world. Children are made aware of the many needs that arise during mission work and how God brings those resources together to accomplish His tasks. These children are also shown how to carry out mission activities in our own community and the needs people face every day.

Discipleship Training

The Discipleship Ministry of First Baptist seeks to teach each believers both the basics of the Christian faith and the deeper truths of Christian growth. As with Sunday School, we have classes for all ages: Children, Youth and Adults. Our AWANA Ministry is the Discipleship Training for children during the school year. Adults have several options to choose from throughout the year. Such subjects as witnessing, financial stewardship, Baptist beliefs and doctrinal studies are among the choices offered.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a Deacon led ministry that is focused on meeting the needs of those in the church and the community with financial needs. This assistance is given to families facing financial hardships on a short term basis. Though cash is rarely given, this ministry will pay utility bills, buy groceries and meet many other needs that arise.

Library

The church library is located across the street in the Annex. The Library is open anytime there are meetings in the Annex. There is a good selection of both fiction and nonfiction material geared for children, youth and adults. The library has videos, DVDs and cassettes for all ages that may be signed out. To sign out material just fill out the card in the back of the item and leave it on the desk. These items may be returned by placing them in the box in the foyer of the church. The library committee works on Tuesday from 10 to noon.

MOPS

The Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS) is a ministry to assist new and young mothers with the demands of raising children during their first years of life. Our lady volunteers are there to encourage, love, help and pray for these mothers. They are lending themselves as Christian mentors, while giving biblical advice, to mothers that may be struggling with this great responsibility. They instill the love and hope that only Christ brings to families that may not know Christ.

Music

The Music Ministry of First Baptist contains opportunities for praise and worship through music, as well as education of music. We often use music as a tool to minister, to serve and to reach the lost. Our choirs have ministered to the Senior Adult Center, Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission and Hiland Mountain Correctional Facility. Choirs are available for Children, Youth and Adults. At times, depending on availability, we have instrumental ensembles and opportunities.

Nursery

The nursery is divided into several groups: Bed Babies, toddlers, 2 year olds, 3 year olds, 4 & 5 year olds and Kindergarten. Our workers have a genuine love for these little ones and ensure that rooms and toys are clean and safe at all times.

Outreach

The Outreach ministry gives members of our church the opportunity to reach out and welcome visitors from our community. Outreach comes in various forms, such as personal visits, phone calls and letters or cards.

Sunday School

Our Sunday School has the task of teaching God’s Word to equip the body of believers to carry out the Great Commission. This is accomplished mainly by expository teaching through the books of the Bible. We offer a wide range of adult, youth, children and nursery classes designed to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the body of Christ.

WMU

Our Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) has a mission oriented focus with the task of educating women, young women, girls and preschool children about the mission work of the church. They will teach missions, engage in mission activities and support world missions through prayer and giving. These various opportunities offer a wide range of classes that meet mostly on Wednesdays.

Youth

The Youth Ministry of First Baptist Church reaches out to the youth in our area through many different activities. The Youth meet regularly on Wednesday night for games and Bible study at 7:00pm in the Annex facility.  They also meet regularly on Sunday for Sunday School (9:30am), Discipleship Training (5:00pm) and AWANAs (5:00pm – 7:00pm).

Our youth also participate in various conferences that include; Alaska's Youth Winter Conference (in Fairbanks), Fusion (Anchorage) and the Youth Evangelism Conference (also known as Avalanche (Anchorage)). Each summer the Youth continue to be involved in leading Vacation Bible School for the children in Whittier, Alaska.

Throughout the year they participate in various activities to include: ski trips, Youth Christmas banquet, camping & hiking trips, gym nights, roller skating parties, Lock-In’s, Discipleship Now weekends and other mission-minded activities in our community.

All Youth (7th – 12th grades) are welcome to join us at anytime. We look forward to seeing your Youth and would encourage their participation.
